FAIRMONT — The West Bladen Knights went away to the Fairmont Golden Tornados in an 18-0 defeat. The first quarter ended scoreless between the two teams. The Golden Tornados’ junior quarterback Gabriel Washington connected on a 40-yd pass to junior wideout Travelius Leach. The home team would go on to convert a two-point run to make the game 8-0 with 6:15 on the clock.
A defensive battle for most of the games and the momentum didn’t shift until the start of the fourth quarter. The Knights sent a snap out of the end zone resulting in a safety making the score 10-0 in favor of the home team. Junior running back Demarcus Grissett took an 8-yd run into the endzone to put the Golden Tornados up 16 and in a better position for the win.
The two-point attempt failed so things stayed the same with 4:00 left in the game. The Knights didn’t have much luck in the night and another bad snap resulting in a safety gifted their opponent 2 more points to seal the game at 18.
The Golden Tornadoes’ junior Decoaleon Austin led the game in rushing with 114 yds on 34 carries and Washington led the game in passing with 101 yds. The Knights’ senior defensive tackle Deonte Lacy led his team with 13 tackles for the game. The Knights’ Tyler Ward and Aaron Lewis ended the night with sacks to their name.
The Knights will be at home next week against the Red Springs Red Devils.
