TAR HEEL — A man who claims he will be running for Bladen County sheriff was arrested on Saturday by sheriff’s deputies.
Donald Lee Melvin, 62, of Tar Heel told the Bladen County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 16 that he would be running for county sheriff and challenging current Sheriff Jim McVicker.
He was charged with one count of possessing a firearm in violation of a domestic violence protective order and one count of a domestic violence protective order violation. A Sheriff’s Office report states a weapon was found in Melvin’s vehicle when it was stopped by the N.C. State Highway Patrol on Saturday at about 1 a.m.
Melvin was booked into the Bladen County Jail under a $225,000 secured bond.
