ELIZABETHTOWN — The 2012-13 basketball season got off to a successful start for the Lady Eagles of East Bladen High, as they used a big second quarter to down visiting Southwest Onslow High on Tuesday, 54-39.

The Lady Eagles are now 1-0 on the young season.

East Bladen opened the game with a stout defense that helped hold the Lady Stallions to just two buckets en route to a 9-4 advantage.

The lady Eagles then went on a scoring binge and outscored Southwest Onslow by a 21-14 margin to take a 30-18 lead into halftime.

The Lady Stallions narrowly won their only quarter of the game, 9-6, in the third to whittle the deficit to 36-27. But East Bladen went on another scoring run and finished the game on an 18-12 run through the final 8 minutes.

Asha Graham bombed in a trio of 3-pointers and finished the game with those nine points for East Bladen, but Lacey Suggs took scoring honors with 14 points for the Lady Eagles and added nine steals. Abbey Norris contributed nine points, eight rebounds, five steals, four blocked shots and three assists. Melissa Macon also had nine points.

East Bladen will play at East Columbus High on Tuesday.
