BLADENBORO — A Bladenboro man is still awaiting a decision from the district attorney’s office for allegedly shooting a 33-year-old man in the head on Feb. 7.

Johnny Edward Bungert Jr., 32, of 1581 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Bladenboro, was arrested on murder charges after officers found Brian D. Huard dead on the scene at Bungert’s home, reports showed. Huard was reportedly staying at the home with the Bungert family, Bladen County Sheriff Steve Bunn said after the shooting.

Interviews with Bungert after the shooting revealed the two men had gotten into an argument on the afternoon of Feb. 7, and at some point during the struggle, Bungert allegedly pulled a pistol from his pocket and shot Huard one time in the head, reports showed.

“The D.A. is reviewing the case and waiting on some crime lab reports to complete the evaluation,” Bunn said Friday.

Bungert is not currently in jail, Bunn said. He was released on bond on Feb. 24, he said.
