May 17

— Mt. Zion AME Zion Church Men’s Ministry will hold a car wash Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at 1101 Martin Luther King Drive (Wilbert’s old car wash) in Elizabethtown. Cost is $15 per vehicle and includes inside and outside, tires, vacuum and windows. Also, hot dogs will be available for $1 each with a soda included. Everyone is invited to attend.

— A Spring revival is under way at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Lisbon. Pas. Charles Jacobs of First Baptist Missionary Baptist church in Riegelwood will be the revivalist. The services begin at 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 1604 White Plains Church Road.

May 18

— A gospel jubilee night is being sponsored by the White’s Creek Missionary Voices of Praise Choir at White’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church Saturday, May 18. Soloists, choirs and groups, praise dancers are all invited to attend along with the general public. The church is located at 6838 Airport Road, Lisbon.

— The Elizabethtown Church of God will have a Boston Butt Sale on Saturday, May 18, 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Potter’s Seafood on White Lake Drive, White Lake. They weigh between and 9 and 12 pounds. Cost is $25 each and they are fully cooked. The sale is for pick up only. For more information call 910-374-3924.

A free car wash and lunch sponsored by Zion Hill Baptist Church of Bladenboro will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the church parking lot. Zion Hill is located on highway 131 north of Bladenboro. All are invited!

The Hammond Creek Association Fun Day will be held on Saturday, May 18, at Bladen County Park from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

— The Sword of the Lord Ministries will have an appreciation program for Eldress Linda Lacewell. The service will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 5 p.m. at the Sword of the Lord Ministries, 404 Martin Luther King Drive, Elizabethtown.

A benefit program is being held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Center Missionary Baptist Church for Lisa Owens Lester. She is a Bladenboro native and has cancer. She is the daughter of Bertha Owens and sister of Trelonnie Owens Jr. Center Baptist is located at 19569 NC 410 Highway; Bladenboro.

May 19

Women’s Day will be observed at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, May 19, at 11 am. Minister Aletha Young of Tabernacle Believers Holiness Church will be the guest preacher. Everyone is invited to attend.

— Piney Grove AME Zion Church of Clarkton will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, May 19, at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Wendy McKoy of Christina Plain AME Zion Church in Whiteville. The theme is Christian Women: A Vision of Hope. Everyone is invited to attend.

— St. James AME Zion Church of Bladenboro will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, May 19, at 3 p.m. Minister Ida Doris Hayes, of First Baptist Church of Bladenboro, will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited to attend.

— Carvers Creek AME Zion Church of Council will have a “Women and Men United in Faith” service on Sunday, May 19, at 11 a.m. The occasion celebrates Women’s and Men’s Day. The Rev. Valentine Sutton of Trinity AME Zion Church of Council along with her church and choir will be the guests. Sister Bernestine Grange will play the piano. Following the service, lunch will be served at 1 p.m. At 3 p.m. the service will continue with the Men’s Day message presented by the Rev. Jakeem Bowman, assistant pastor of Minturn Grove Baptist Church of Dillon, S.C. The guest choir will be Christian Plain AME Zion Church of Clarkton and Brother George Fishburn will play piano. Everyone is invited to attend these services.

— The Sandhill Usher’s Ministry will celebrate their anniversary on Sunday, May 19, at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Jeremy Buie and congregation of Zion Baptist Church of Riegelwood will be the special guests. Usher’s from the surrounding churches are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

The Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church Steward Board program will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19. The guest speaker will be the Rev. S. O. Greene, pastor of Baker’s Creek A.M.E. Zion Church, accompanied by the Baker’s Creek choir and congregation. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Rev. John Fuller of Fayetteville will be the guest speaker Sunday, May 19, at Pilgrim Hill Baptist Church in Clarkton. The church is located at 957 Elkton Road, Clarkton.

— The 136th church anniversary of Brown’s Creek AME Zion Church will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 19. The message will be delivered by Pas. Joyce A. McLaughlin. Everyone is invited to attend.

— Christ Community Baptist Church will hold a baby shower for the Pro-Life Agape Center in Elizabethtown. This shower will be held on Sunday, May 19, beginning at 4 p.m. The center is especially in need of diapers of all sizes and infant clothes. However, it can use all baby items.

May 22

Bishop John Blunt from Greater New Life Christian Center in Cartersville, Ga., will be rendering a three night revival at The Seat of Mercy in Clarkton. The revival services will be held May 22-24 at 7 p.m. nightly. There will be various choirs performing nightly. Everyone is invited to attend.

May 30

The Rev. Clifton E. Freeman, Jr. will be ministering at For The Cause of Christ Ministry at 7:30 p.m. for Pastor Ronnie McKoy’s 10th Anniversary on Thursday, May 30.

June 15

— The annual Black River Bream and Bass Tournament, sponsored by the White Lake Baptist Church Brotherhood, is planned for Saturday, June 15, from 4 until 9 p.m. Start checking boats at 3 p.m. Must be in line with fish by 9 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per person each class, $10 for 10 years or younger. There will be two cash payoffs (50 percent of total entry fees each class). Rules are N.C. fishing regulations. No alcoholic beverages.
