DUBLIN — Those who attend Bladen Community College’s curriculum graduation exercise on Thursday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. are in for a special treat.
The commencement speaker for the occasion is Elizabethtown Town Manager Edwin H. “Eddie” Madden, who is a member of the North Carolina Board of Community Colleges.
A native of western North Carolina, Madden earned a bachelor of science in political science and master of science in public administration, both from Western Carolina University. He has extensive experience in both the public and private sector.
Prior to accepting the position of town manager in Elizabethtown more than four years ago, Madden was the planning director of Highlands. Prior to that, he worked in his family’s real estate and construction business for 10 years after graduating from college.
He served as a Jackson County commissioner and as a member of the Southwestern Community College Board of Trustees before moving to Elizabethtown. He also served on the North Carolina State Board of Landscape Architects. Prior to coming to Bladen County, he was appointed by the governor to serve on the State Board of Community Colleges, which oversees the 58 community colleges across the state.
In 2011, Madden was selected to attend the Senior Executive Leadership Institute at the prestigious Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He is a licensed pilot, an avid runner and cyclist and has completed three marathons and several other competitive race events.
He is actively involved in the Elizabethtown Rotary Club, where he served as president in 2011 and has been named assistant district governor for District 7730 in southeastern North Carolina
He and his wife of 19 years, Dawn, have three children and reside in Elizabethtown.
