DUBLIN — North Brunswick High crashed the Senior Night party at West Bladen High on Friday by holding all of the Knights under double-digit scoring and playing a solid second half to hand West Bladen a 55-41 loss.
The Knights are now 9-2 in the Waccamaw Conference and 16-6 overall.
The two teams came out tentative in the first quarter and neither could mount any sort of run. When the first 8 minutes of play had ended, West Bladen was holding a precarious 7-6 edge.
That edge disappeared for good in the second quarter when the Scorpions outscored the Knights by a 17-13 margin and took a 23-20 lead into halftime.
With a trio of players doing most of the damage, North Brunswick met every challenge the Knights put up. The Scorpions used a 15-11 advantage in the third quarter to extend their lead to 38-31 before sealing the upset win over the Waccamaw Conference leaders with a 17-10 fourth quarter.
West Bladen, now just one-half game ahead of 8-2 East Bladen in the conference standings with Friday’s matchup at East Bladen on the horizon, was led by Justin Gillespie’s nine points. D.J. Mason and Malcolm Vaught each scored eight points for the Knights.
