The funeral was held on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at the New Townsend Temple First Born Church with the Supt. Thomas A Wiggins Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.
A viewing was held at Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, from noon to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.
Another viewing was held at the church Thursday, one hour prior to the service and again following the service.
Surviving are his wife, Otelia Beatty; daughters, Cynthia Beatty of Kansas, Corinthian Beatty of Bolton, and Stephanie Hall of Riegelwood; sons, Corey Beatty of Wilmington and Cleo J. Beatty of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Janie Freeman and Rutha M. Shaw of Riegelwood, and Blanchie Knox of Leland; brothers, Nathan Beatty and Alton Beatty of Bolton, Lester Beatty of Durham, Theodore Beatty of Council, and Kenneth Beatty of Riegelwood.
