The East Bladen Eagles began official football practice Friday afternoon. Around 70 players, including varsity and jayvees, were on hand to participate.
“I’m pleased with the turnout,” Coach Lenon Fisher said. “We have a lot of work ahead of us preparing for the season that’s just around the corner.”
The Eagles have only four of the defensive and four of the offensive starters from last year’s team returning.
“We lost so many good players to graduation last year,” Fisher said. “Hopefully things will come together again for us again this year.”
Fisher will have the same assistants again this year, including Russell Priest, Terry Smith, Robbie Priest, Kevin Conklin and Ritchie Priest.
“We are not real sure right now how we will split up with the jayvee team,” Fisher said. “We may all work with both teams.”
For the first time in several years East Bladen will play an endowment game this season. The Eagles are scheduled to host Green Sea Floyd in that contest on Aug. 22.
The following week East will travel to Whiteville and the remainder of the scheduled will be the same as last year.
Again this year the Eagles will participate in the Sampson County Jamboree set for Aug. 15. East is scheduled to play at Hobbton High along with West Bladen, Hobbton and Lakewood.
