Now that the weather has warmed and the skies are sunny and blue, its time to think about such wonderful summer past times as spending time at the lake boating, swimming, and enjoying the many attractions White Lake has to offer. The 30th annual White Lake Water Festival is scheduled to take place this weekend offering such delights as dances, a parade, food, and many other attractions.
Dawn Maynard, tourism specialist for the Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce and one of the festival’s many volunteers, predicts warm temperatures and sunny skies for the festival.
There have been some new events added to the festival this year as well as such crowd favorites as the parade. This year’s parade will begin at 10 a.m.
“We moved the start time of the parade because we wanted to start the live entertainment under the main tent earlier,” said Maynard. “We used to have the road race on Saturday morning and over the past years, we’ve changed the road race to Sunday mornings.”
Following the parade, the White Lake Volunteer Fire Department will have a barbecue plate sale beginning at 11 a.m.
Crystal Beach will be one of the focal points of this year’s activities. The teen shag contest as well as the teen dance on Friday night will be held at Crystal Beach. They will also host the sand castle building contest on Saturday and a dance Saturday evening featuring the Fantastic Shakers.
“Traditionally, Crystal Beach was known for dances,” said Maynard.
The festival committee was able to get Crystal Beach’s owners to donate the facility allowing them to bring the dance back to the beach.
“Boats can pull up to the pier at Crystal Beach and unload,” said Maynard.
Also on Friday evening, a lawn and garden tractor pull will take place across from the Scotchman Store on Hwy. 701.
Crystal Beach will also have carnival rides, carnival-type foods, and go cart rides as well as jet ski rentals.
There will be arts and crafts for sale, roaming clowns to entertain, and face painting for the children. Maynard said folks who want to try their hand at singing can participate in karaoke at Goldston’s Beach on Saturday.
Other events planned for Saturday at Hwy. 701 across from the Scotchman Store, including a classic car show will take place with registration from 9 a.m. until noon and judging will take place from noon until 3 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to car show winners at 3 p.m.
Beginning at 1 p.m., the White Lake Fire Department will hold a tractor pull at the White Lake airport.
On Sunday, contestants can report to the White Lake Town Hall for the One Mile Fun Run, 10k Road Race, and Two Person Relay. Registration for these races begins at 6:30 a.m., and the races begin at 8 a.m.
The Fireman’s Olympics will also take place at 8 a.m., Sunday and the live entertainment at Goldston’s Beach will begin at 2 p.m.
