East Bladen retires Richardson’s jersey

A ceremonies was held at East Bladen High Friday night to retire the No. 20 jersey worn by Kevin Richardson during his football playing days at the school.

Following his 2003 graduation from East Bladen, Richardson went on to Appalachian State University where he led the Mountaineers to three consecutive National champions.

Several were on hand to help celebrate Richardson’s achievements, including Appalachian State head football coach Jerry Moore, Appalachian runningbacks coach Chris Moore, East Bladen coaches Lenon Fisher, Russell Priest, Robbie Priest and Terry Smith, Bladen County Commissioners chairperson Margaret Lewis-Moore, and East Bladen Booster Club President Ekie Lancaster.

Lewis-Moore presented Richardson with a resolution from the County Commissioners, as did Elizabethtown Town Council member Russell Priest.

During his three year career at East Bladen, Richardson rushed for 4,078 yards, including 2,225 yards and 36 touchdowns his senior year..

At Appalachian, he rushed for 4, 804 yards and 6,151 all-purpose yards. He set numerous school records while playing for the Apps.
