William Albert “Punk” Settlemeyer, Sr., 85, of Carvers Creek, N.C., died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at his residence.
He was born January 26, 1922 on Lebanon Plantation in Carvers Creek Township, son of the late Artie Roy and Ruth Flowers Settlemeyer.
He was a retired Registered Forester, farmer, lifelong member of Carvers Creek United Methodist Church, Vice President and a Director of Four County EMC for thirty-eight years, a Shriner and a member of Waccamaw Masonic Lodge #596.
Mr. Settlemeyer is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mattie Heath Settlemeyer; daughters, Peggy McKay and husband Trace, Judi Davis and husband Michael; sons, W.A. “Bill” Settlemeyer, Jr. and wife Elizabeth, and David Roy Settlemeyer and wife Melanie; nine grandchildren, Brad Settlemeyer and wife Megan, Matthew Settlemeyer, Karen Priest, Joey Priest and wife Denise, Hunter Davis, Heath Settlemeyer, Susan Settlemeyer Edwards and husband Anthony, Chris Settlemeyer, and Tim Settlemeyer and wife Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Jade and Jordyn Settlemeyer; and a twin sister, Alice Settlemeyer Long.
Mr. Settlemeyer was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Warren McMurry for his exceptional care and friendship during the illness of Mr. Settlemeyer.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Carvers Creek United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
The family received friends from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

Lonnie “Cleo” Pait, 74, of Dublin died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Pait owned his own trucking company, C & E Trucking in Dublin. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Lonnie and Mittie Pait, and one brother and several sisters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
A chapel service was held on Sunday, Dec. 16, at Bladen Funeral Home in Elizabethtown at 2 p.m., with burial following in the New Pait Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 15, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bladen Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Pait of the home; a special granddaughter, Erica Potter, of Kelly; a special great-granddaughter “Papa’s Sweetheart,” Samantha Potter of Kelly; three daughters, Robbie Mabe of Bladenboro, Patricia Brisson of Bladenboro, and Alice “Sissy” Allen of Elizabethtown; one brother, Eugene Pait of Lumberton; three sisters, Tillie Michael of Texas, Leona Ellis of Arkansas, and Murlette Pallo of Maryland; and four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Berthalene Y. Smith, 73, of 445 Shaw Rd., Riegelwood, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at Brunswick Cove Living Center in Winnabow.

Goldie Cashwell Davis, 94, of Tar Heel, died on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Bladen County Hospital.
The funeral service was held at Tar Heel Baptist Church yesterday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Rutland officiating. Burial followed in the Beth Car Church Cemetery in Tar Heel. Visitation was held at Tar Heel Baptist Church on Monday, Dec. 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
She is survived by daughters, Louise Brisson, Sarah Brisson, Julia Williams and Emma Jean Debnam, and Margaret Wright; one sister, Leon Carter; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
