West Bladen’s jayvee girls overcame an early 14-2 deficit with a 25-2 scoring blitz that vaulted the Lady Knights to a 35-19 non-conference victory at South Columbus Tuesday.

Anna King, Carrie Parnell and Venecia Kelly shared scoring honors with eight points each as Coach Warren Hill’s Lady Knights evened their record at 1-1.

Parnell’s pass inside to Mary Butler for a lay-up ignited a 9-0 West Bladen run in the final 2:45 of the first half. Kelly banked in a jumper from the key and banged in a follow shot, Mary Caitlin Clark sank a free throw, and King connected from the left wing to trim the South Columbus lead to 14-11 at halftime.

Kelly canned another bank shot to start the third period, before Parnell nailed a three-pointer to push West Bladen ahead 16-14. After the Lady Stallions tied the game at 16-16, Parnell threw in another three-pointer to put the Lady Knights ahead to stay.

Taylor Smith tossed in a 10-footer, before King broke free for a pair of lay-ups, one off of a steal and the other off a Parnell assist. Kelly dropped in another lay-up off of a Jaconna Rozier assist to run the count to 27-16 at the quarter break.

A Mary Kathryn Anderson rebound basket and lay-ups by Parnell, King and Clark accounted for the final margin.

Forward Camille Lewis muscled in 11 of her game-high 12 points for South Columbus in the first half.
