The high school basketball season is here. Both East Bladen and West Bladen played scrimmage games last week.
The first regular season game of the year is scheduled for tonight when the East Bladen Eagles travel to East Columbus. The girl’s jayvee game gets underway at 4 p.m. The boy’s jayvee, the girl’s varsity and the boy’s varsity contests follow.
The East Bladen varsity girls are scheduled to host Southwest Onslow Thursday night.
The West Bladen’s Knights were scheduled to play at Clinton next Tuesday night, but the contest will be rescheduled because the Dark Horses are still in the football playoffs.
The West Bladen varsity boys are set to scrimmage Harrells Christian Academy Friday night.
West Bladen’s first regular season game is now scheduled for Nov. 29 when the Knights travel to Whiteville.
East Bladen does not have a Holiday Tournament on its schedule. West Bladen is set to play in the Clinton Christmas Tournament on Dec. 27, 28, and 29.
Patty Ever’s Lady Eagles have four of five starters returning from a team that advanced to the East Regional last year.
East Bladen’s Curtis Moss resigned at the end of last school year, and Larry Williams has been named head boy’s varsity coach for the Eagles. Williams, who has served as the school’s Athletic Director for the past five years, will also keep that position.
Coach Ken Cross returns as boy’s varsity coach at West Bladen. Cross is in his 17th year in Bladen County. He served as Tar Heel high coach for 11 years before consolidation between Tar Heel and Bladenboro. This is his sixth year at West Bladen.
Teresa Coleman, who was girl’s varsity coach at Bladenboro high before consolidation, is in her sixth year at West Bladen.
