West Bladen exploded for nine runs in two innings and cruised to a 9-2 victory at Fairmont Friday in a Southeastern 1A/2A softball opener.

Trailing 2-0 after one inning the Lady Knights battled back with four runs in the second. Christina Brisson reached on an error, advanced on a wild pitch and scampered home, when catcher Jessica Price ripped a single to right-centerfield.

After Danielle Baysden was safe on an error, Nikki Fields launched a triple over the rightfielder’s glove that plated courtesy runner Heather Brown and Baysden. Senora Graham’s sacrifice fly brought in Fields for a 4-2 West Bladen lead.

Shortstop Dedra Hardy slammed a single to left to start the third, and Brittany Langdon swatted a single to right. Brisson lofted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Hardy.

Price walked, and Baysden slapped a single to right to drive in Langdon. Brown, a courtesy runner for Price, raced home on a wild pitch, and Fields drew a walk.

A pair of throwing errors on Brandi Packer’s grounder cleared the bases scoring Fields and Packer to widen the gap to 9-2.

Winning pitcher Hillary Jones hurled a seven-hitter and struck out nine, while walking only two. West Bladen improved to 2-3 record for the season.

Hardy batted 2-for-4 to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Fields finished with the triple and two runs batted in. Baysden, Price, Jones and Langdon collected the other West Bladen hits with Price and Baysden picking up RBI’s.

Fairmont bunched three singles around a throwing error for two runs in the first inning. Amber Hunt, Chelsea Epps and Brittany Branch cracked two hits each for Fairmont. Jessica Smith was the losing pitcher. s
