Law enforcement officers are still searching for the man who allegedly shot and killed a companion Saturday.

Warrants are on file charging Raul Tinoco Ortiz, 30, with first-degree murder. Ortiz allegedly killed Fabian Gomez Rosas early Saturday morning while the two were drinking at a Clarkton Mobile Home Park.

The suspect is described as standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. His vehicle was later found on Elkton Road, but Ortiz is still being hunted.

Friends of Rosas built a makeshift memorial on the spot where Rosas died. Lime was poured into a cross-shape covering the bloodstained ground where Rosas fell, and candles were placed along the cross. Flowers were placed at the end of each branch of the cross.

An Hispanic man who spoke broken English said he helped make the memorial. He said the victim and the suspect had been drinking a lot of beer before the shooting, and that Ortiz “has much problems.” The man shrugged when asked why the two had fought.

“No reason,” he said. “I don’t know. Much drinking.”

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department at 862-6960.
