Woman charged in will forgery

A Clayton woman is in jail after allegedly forging a will and claiming part of a Bladenboro man’s estate.

Bladen County Sheriff Steve Bunn said Barbara K. Taylor, of Commodore Rd., Clayton, is charged with forging a will and perjury. She is in the Bladen County Jail.

Bunn said Taylor allegedly forged a will using the name of the late Cecil Averitte, and filed court documents as an heir. Averitte died last month.

Deputies recovered a numb- er of items from Averitte’s estate at Taylor’s home. Bunn said Taylor is being questioned ina number of similar cases in the area.

“Investigation of the case helped us develop a number of leads which may lead to similar cases,” Bunn said. “We’re still looking into it.”
