A former employee of City Pawn in Elizabethtown was arrested Wednesday for allegedly taking money from the store.

Elizabethtown Police Chief Bobby Kinlaw said Neil Howard Avant, 31, of 2047 Cromartie Rd., Elizabethtown, was arrested by Det. Chris Robeson for three counts of felonious embezzlement. Avant turned himself in and was released by the court on a $6,000 bond.

Kinlaw said the pawn shop contacted police in June after employees discovered an undisclosed amount of cash missing from the store. After an investigation, Kinlaw said, Robeson took out warrants charging Avant with the thefts.

City Pawn is located at 1401 W. Broad St., Elizabethtown.
