Three teens were killed and two other people injured Monday in a three-vehicle collision between Whiteville and Clarkton.

According to reports, the dead were Wendell Hines, 17; Antonio Martin, 15; and James Pierce, 17. Pierce is from Greensboro. Hines and Martin, who are half-brothers, lived at 2774 Tom's Session Rd., Whiteville.

The driver of the car, Stephan Anthony Young, 18, lives in Fayetteville.

According to Highway Patrol reports, Young apparently stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of Hallsboro and Farmer's Union Roads, then pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer driven by Ronald Christopher Smith of Elizabethtown.

Young's vehicle then struck a vehicle headed west on Farmer's Union road. The driver of that car, Tammy Hilbor Hyatt of Clarkton, was not injured.

Young's Dodge also smashed into a car in a nearby grocery store parking lot.

Smith and Young were taken to Columbus County Hospital.
