The West Bladen Knights boys cross country team placed seventh in the Mid East Regional meet held in Pittsboro Saturday.

Host team Northwood High won the 13-school event. The Knights have finished either second or third behind Red Springs and St. Pauls all season long during Tri-Six regular season meets.

At Pittsboro Saturday the Knights placed above both teams. Red Springs came in eighth, St. Pauls ninth, and Gray's Creek 13th.

Neither team from the local conference will advance to the State meet. The top four teams from the Regional advance and the five runners with the best overall finish.

West Bladen's Jonathan Autry just missed advancing to the State finals after finishing in sixth place overall. Autry's time was 17:45.

Nick Carson finished 22nd of the 96 participants. Josh Cain came in 33rd, Brandon Dowless 71st, Alan Ransom placed 74th and Derick Taylor 78th.

"This was our best showing of the year,' Coach Ron Autry said. "The guys have put in a lot of hard work, and it showed. We were disappointed we didn't make the State meet, but we had a successful year."
