At least one person was killed and three others injured Monday afternoon in a collision near Elizabethtown.

Details were not available at press time, but the wreck occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Peanut Plant Road and N.C. 87 Bypass.

According to emergency workers, a late model Pontiac was traveling southwest on Peanut Plant road when the driver pulled into the path of an eastbound Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Trailblazer overturned several times and came to rest in the west bound lane.

The wreckage blocked the westbound lane for more than an hour. Traffic was backed up as far as the Martin Luther King Drive exit.

The wreck occurred within 100 feet of the spot where a Wilmington man died last summer in a similar collision.
