Details on the wreck were incomplete at presstime, but according to a report filed by N.C., Highway Patrol Trooper M.W. Hall, Mesert Mehari Dbrue of Georgia was killed when the car in which he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle.
The driver, Jabari Donovan, also of Georgia, was headed east on N.C. 41 between Rowan and Tomahawk when he attempted to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with a 2000 Ford Expedition, according to the report.
The driver of the Ford, Franklin Merritt of Whiteville, was headed west when the two vehicles met in the westbound lane. Both apparently tried to steer off the road to avoid the collision, the report said.
Five passengers in the Ford-Jean Merritt, Mason Merritt, Miranda Merritt, and Keya Gray, all of Whiteville-were injured.
Charges are pending in the wreck, and the investigation is continuing.
