The project is slated to get underway Monday (July 22), and the road will be closed to through traffic during the construction period, said Upole, who is in charge of the project.
Sanford Construction Company of Sanford has the contract to construct the bridge.
"Under the terms of the contract, they have 100 days to complete the project," Upole said. "However, their track record has been that they usually finish this type of project about a week ahead of schedule, provided there are no unforeseen problems-such as a hurricane-that might slow down the work."
During the construction period, through traffic on Tar Heel Road will be rerouted around the bridge via Chicken Foot Road, Purdie-Hall Road and NC 87.
