Reverend Steve Edwards officiated at the 8 p.m. ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Root of Bladenboro and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wade Langley of Supply and Gail Wright Smith of Bladenboro.
The bride is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a B. A. degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, and an M. Ed. in School Counseling. The groom is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his Pharmacy degree.
Escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a long, sleeveless ball gown of white satin with a scoop neckline and fitted waist. The bodice and skirt were trimmed with pearls, iridescent sequins, and crystal beads. Her veil was white tulle held together with a tiara of Australian crystals. She carried a nosegay of red roses.
Maid of honor was the bride's sister, Melinda Root of Bladenboro. She wore a long gown of light blue satin with a scoop neckline and fitted-waist trimmed in pearls. The gown featured spaghetti straps and a princess skirt. She carried a candle in a silver hurricane globe.
Bridesmaids were Rebecca Coley of Apex; Lea Drye of Madison, Wisconsin; Heather Leser of Raleigh; Kelli Moore of Wilmington; and Keri-Ana Smith of Bladenboro, sister of the groom. They were gowned like the honor attendants.
The groom's father was his best man and groomsmen were Thaniel Brisson of Bladenboro, cousin of the bride; John Hales of Ash; Eric Leser of Raleigh; Bryan Moore of Wilmington; and Michael Smith, Jr. of Bladenboro, brother of the groom.
The groom and the groomsmen all wore black tuxedos, silver vests and silver ties.
Abigale Church, cousin of the groom, was flower girl and Jacob King was ringbearer.
Amy Brisson, cousin of the bride, and Marianne Edwards, cousin of the groom, were program attendants. Mike, cousin of the groom, and Jenifer Talley were registrars.
Music was provided by Jason Atkinson, organist, and Sandy Edwards, Gene Berrier and Greg Sykes, soloists.
The couple took their wedding trip to St. Lucia.
RECEPTION
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Historical Building of Bladenboro. It was hosted by the bride and groom.
REHEARSAL DINNER
The rehearsal dinner was held on June 28 at the New Center Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. It was hosted by the groom's father.
PRENUPTIAL FESTIVITIES
On April 6, a bridal shower was given for the bride and groom at Kemp's Seafood in Raleigh. Eric and Heather Leser were hosts.
On April 27, a brunch was given for the bride and groom at New Center Baptist Church in Bladenboro. Hostesses were the WMU.
On April 28, a bridal shower was held at Singletary UMC in Dublin. Hostesses were Gloria Griffin and Heather Leser.
On June 1, a luau was given for the bride and groom in the yard of Evelyn Wright. Hostesses were Jenifer Talley, Luann Carroll and Anita Hester.
On June 2, a bridal shower, given by Luann Carroll, was held at New Light Baptist Church.
On June 3, a bridal shower, hosted by Amy Byrd, was held at Stoney Point Elementary School.
On June 11, a shower was given for the bride at Adelio's Restaurant in Lumberton. Hostesses were the Southeastern Regional Medical Center Laboratory staff.
On June 29, a luncheon was given for the bride, mothers and bridesmaids. It was held at the home of and hosted by Jackie Page.
