ELIZABETHTOWN — Mrs. Clementine Hardin Taylor, age 81, of Elizabethtown, died peacefully at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville on Friday, January 2, 2009, following an extended illness. A sister to four brothers, she grew up in the Barnesville community of Robeson County.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wade A. Taylor, Jr.; a son, Dale T. Taylor and wife Tracy; her grandchildren, Megan T. Gooden and husband Nick, Gabriel Taylor, and McKenzie Taylor; great grandchildren, Carson and Jacob Gooden; a brother, Wilford H. Hardin and wife, Faye, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her son, Wade Archibald (Archie) Taylor, III of Elizabethtown; her parents, Henry Thomas and Dora Small Hardin of Barnesville; her brothers E.M. Hardin of Lumberton, Odell Hardin of Raeford, and P.R. Hardin of Fairmont.

For many years Mrs. Taylor worked along beside her husband, Wade, in running their family business, T & T Tire Service, Inc. in Elizabethtown. Mrs. Taylor was a “people” person and enjoyed seeing and talking with customers and friends throughout the many years she worked. She was an active member of the Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce while she worked.

Being a Christian woman, she was formerly a member of Bethesda Methodist Church in Barnesville and after marrying, she transferred her membership to Bethel Baptist Church in Dublin. She was involved in church activities until her health declined. After suffering a stroke in 1998, she spent most of her time in Sunbridge Rest Home in Elizabethtown where she was known and loved as “Miss Clem” by the staff and other residents.

Visitation was held on Sunday, January 4, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kinlaw Funeral Home.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009, at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverends Warren Hill and Jerry Beck officiating. Burial followed at Bladen Memorial Gardens.

The family will also be receiving friends at the home of Dale and Tracy Taylor, 3977 NC 87 East, Elizabethtown.
