ELIZABETHTOWN — The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy held its closing ceremony for The 2nd Corps of Cadets on Friday, June 5, at Bladen Community College.

After the posting of the colors by the Color Guard, LTCNC Carl Lloyd welcomed the group and The 2nd Corps of Cadets recited the Cadets’ Creed.

Headmaster Roland McKoy presented the following students for promotion into high school: Taidran Beatty, Nelson Drake, Daishaun Elder, Taylor Gore, Passion Graham, Sincere Gray, Gilbert Haire, Breonna Lee, Tyler Lesane, Zyiem Maultsby, Kayvion McKoy, Sayvion McKoy, Zachary Monroe, Angel Newkirk, Mikalia Trice, Blake Tyner and Nigel Willis.

Headmaster McKoy and Academic Dean Stephanie Henry handed out awards in the areas of academics and character. Commandant of Cadets LTCNC Carl Lloyd gave out the military awards.

After the Alma Mater, the group witnessed the “Casing of the Colors.” This is a time-honored military tradition which symbolizes the completion of the school year. The Academy Colors will be stored in cases for safe keeping during the summer. They will be uncased in the fall during the Activation Ceremony for the next Corps of Cadets.

The ceremony ended with Bill Caudill of Scotland County playing his bagpipes and leading the cadets out of the auditorium.
