SUMTER, S.C. — The U.S. Air Force recently gave a major promotion to Christopher H. Jones, a native of White Oak, N.C., and 1989 graduate of Tar Heel (N.C.) High School.
Chief Master Sgt. Jones, who enlisted in the Air Force in December 1989, was promoted from Security Forces manager to Security Forces MAJCOM functional manager for Air Mobility Command assigned to Detachment 9, Air Force Installations & Mission Support Center in Sumter.
“This warrior was selected from his peers because of his extensive tactical, operational and strategic experience,” said Col. Chris Bargery. “As the number two chief in the Security Forces career field, his operational and strategic leadership will be essential to taking the Security Forces career field to the next level.”
In this capacity, according to a release from the Air Force, Jones will serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor and provides subject matter expertise to the Detachment 9 Commander and the AMC Chief, Security Forces for all matters relating to the organization, training, and equipping of Security Forces to defeat threats to AMC’s Airlift, Air Refueling, and Aeromedical Evacuation operations. As a qualified RAVEN, Chief Jones advises the USTRANSCOM, AMC, and 18 AF Commanders on matters affecting Phoenix RAVEN policy for Air Mobility Command. Additionally, he is responsible for all aspects of security forces manpower within AMC and represents Air Mobility Command Security Forces as the Senior Enlisted member to the Security Forces Executive Council, SF CMSgt and SMSgt Developmental Teams, Utilization & Training Workshops and Training Planning Teams.
During his 26 years of service with the Air Force, Jones has a strong military background — including various duties across the full spectrum of security forces operations ranging from installation entry controller to security forces manager within airbase, operational and specialized mission wings. His assignments include locations in Germany, North Dakota, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, Ohio, South Carolina, Illinois and Southwest Asia. Chief Jones has also deployed in support of Joint Task Force SAFE HAVEN, Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM and NEW DAWN. Before assuming his current position, he served as the Security Forces manager, 20th Security Forces Squadron, Shaw AFB, South Carolina.

— Air Force Commendation with three bronze oak leaf clusters
— Air Force Achievement with three bronze oak leaf clusters
— Meritorious Unit Award with two bronze oak leaf clusters
— Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one silver oak leaf cluster
— Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with one bronze oak leaf cluster
— Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon Humanitarian Service Medal

Jones and his wife of 25 years Samantha Williams Jones have a son J.C. and daughter-in-law Rachel, who live in Dayton, Ohio, with their son Sawyer.
Jones is the son of Franklin and Mildred Jones of White Oak, N.C.; he is also the son-in-law of Rita and Randy Jones and the late Sam Williams of White Oak, N.C.
