LAKE WACCAMAW — The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy drill team, the John L. Foye Rifles, won the seventh annual East Columbus High School Gator Drill Meet on Saturday in Lake Waccamaw.

The Drill Team competed against six other teams from across the state of North Carolina.

The John L. Foye Rifles earned trophies in six out of seven events. Those included:

— Cadet SSG Elijah Hayes commanded the Regulation Squad without arms, which finished in third place.

— Cadet CSM Stanari Ballard finished in third place in Color Guard.

— Ballard also finished in first place in Squad Armed Exhibition.

— C/SSG Passion Graham commanded the Regulation Platoon with arms, which took first place.

— C/1LT Iyanna McAllister won first place in Regulation Platoon Unarmed.

— McAllister also took first place in the Exhibition Squad Unarmed competition.

The weekend event also marked the first-ever Best Overall finish by the Paul R. Brown team. The Rifles will travel to Raeford on Saturday for the Hoke County High School JROTC Drill Meet.
