RIEGELWOOD — An otherwise quiet Sunday afternoon was shattered by gunfire and resulted in the shooting of two men and arrest of another.

According to Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker, Bladen County EMS received a report of a shooting early Sunday afternoon.

“Upon arrival of law enforcement they learned that two men had been shot, one in the foot and one in the knee,” McVicker said.

Clifford Graham, 75, of Riegelwood was arrested without incident on Graham and Young Road, off of Locks Road in the East Arcadia community. He has since been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

“The exact motive for the shooting has not been determined but alcohol played a role in the altercation,” McVicker added.

Graham was placed in the Bladen County Jail on Sunday afternoon on a $1 million bond. He had his first appearance hearing in Bladen County District Court on Monday.

Injured in the shooting was:

— Maurice Bowen, 40, of Riegelwood, who was transported to New Hanover Regional Hospital by ambulance. He was treated and released.

— Gerald Holland, 58, of Riegelwood, who was transported to Columbus County Hospital, where he was treated and released.
