WHITE LAKE — The Bladen County Grand Jury has indicted a local businessman with numerous sex offenses with a minor child.

According to records from the White Lake Police Department, Phillip William Goodwin, 45 — the co-owner of Pizza Connection on White Lake Drive — the investigation began back in August when a parent filed a complaint about a child being improperly touched while working at the business.

“The White Lake Police Department received a complaint from a parent Aug. 11, 2015, about the alleged incidents occurring at the business and involving young girls,” Sgt. Mike Salmon said. “White Lake police conducted an investigation and presented their findings to a Bladen County Grand Jury on Monday, Jan. 4.”

The Grand Jury found the evidence plausible and decided to send the case forward for trial.

Goodwin, 45, of Winterville, surrendered to authorities on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and was charged with indecent liberties with a child and two counts of sexual battery. The indecent liberties allegation includes “improper touching” of the victims.

He was released after posting a $5,000 secure bond.
