ELIZABETHTOWN — The Lady Eagles broke open a close game in the third quarter and got a trio of three-pointers from Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson to knock off visiting Word of God Christian out of Raleigh on Friday in a non-conference game, 39-31.

The win, East Bladen’s fourth straight, moved the Lady Eagles to 4-1, while Word of God dropped to 2-6.

Moore-Peterson bombed in a three-pointer in the opening quarter to help East Bladen grab a 9-8 lead going into the second stanza.

The sophomore guard launched two more three-pointers in the second quarter, leading the Lady Eagles to a 10-7 quarter win and East Bladen took a 19-15 advantage into halftime.

Emily Scott caught fire in the second half, scoring all eight of her points including six points in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles outscored the Holy Rams 14-7 in the period to take a 33-22 lead into the final 8 minutes.

Neither team lit up the scoreboard down the stretch, but East Bladen got baskets from Moore-Peterson, Shardajah Brown and Scott to hold off Word of God in the quarter, 9-6, and seal the win.

Moore-Peterson led the Lady Eagles with 15 points,while Scott added eight points,nine steals and 13 rebounds. Ashley Hardin grabbed 11 rebounds for East Bladen.

East Bladen will travel to Fayetteville on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Class 4-A Cape Fear.
