ELIZABETHTOWN –East Bladen opened Four County Conference play Monday and got four goals from Brooks McGill en route to a 5-3 win over visiting Midway.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard early when McGill gathered in a pass from Pierce Melvin and booted a shot to the back of the net.
But moments later, the Raiders knotted the match at 1-1 with a goal on a penalty kick.
The two teams settled into a back and forth battle before East Bladen took a 2-1 edge when McGill pounded home a shot off a pass from Jacob Barber. Moments later, McGill scored his third goal of the match just before halftime off an assist from Greyson Heustess.
In the second half, a throw-in by Heustess found Jake Evans, who sent the ball to McGill — and McGill rocketed a shot into the net for his fourth of the match and a 4-1 East Bladen advantage.
Shortly after, Heustess gave the Eagles a 5-1 margin with a goal off a corner kick.
The reeling Raiders began to mount a comeback and Midway’s pressure paid off with a goal off a long kick. A penalty kick awarded to the Raiders was turned away by netminder Spencer Scott, but later in the half Midway tallied its final goal to pull within 5-3.
