Lady Eagles win; Lady Knights win, lose

ST. PAULS – Anna Grace Long pounded home 24 service winners and teammate Hannah Devane had 22 service points to lead the Lady Eagles volleyball team to a four-set, non-conference win over St. Pauls on Thursday.

East Bladen took the first game by a hard-fought score of 27-25 before dropping the second game 19-25. But the Lady Eagles rebounded with 25-21 and 28-26 wins to seal the match.

East Bladen is now 3-2 on the season.

Long, in addition to her 24 service points, hammered seven kills, while Devane also had four aces and a trio of kills.

Ashley Hardin contributed 13 service winners and three kills; Lexie Mendell had 11 kills and 11 service points; and Bethany Lesane tallied 13 service points.

The Lady Eagles will host Whiteville in a non-conference match on Tuesday.

Tennis

West Bladen went on the road to Pembroke on Thursday to take on Class 4-A Purnell Swett in a non-conference match and came home with a 9-0 whitewash win.

The Lady Knights are now 5-0 this season.

None of the singles matches posed any threat to the Lady Knights — Alanna Ludlum earned an 8-1 win at No. 1; Amber Long took an 8-1 win at No. 2; Helen Lopez was an 8-3 winner at No. 3; Conner Brisson won 8-0 at No. 4; Savannah Lee took an 8-1 victory at No. 5; and Autumn Brisson was an 8-2 winner at No. 6.

In doubles, Ludlum and Long teamed up for an 8-2 win; Conner Brisson and Lee earned an 8-3 win at No. 2; and the No. 3 duo of Lopez and Autumn Brisson won 8-5.

Volleyball

In Cerro Gordo on Wednesday, the Lady Knights took their second straight loss of the season when West Columbus earned a straight sets, non-conference victory by the scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-18.

Morgan Schumacher led West Bladen with nine kills and a trio of aces, while Reagan Davis pounded six kills and three aces.

Other West Bladen contributions included: Kathryn Schultz with three kills; Logan Autry with two kills and two aces.

The Lady Knights are now 3-2 on the season and will go on the road to St. Pauls on Tuesday for a non-conference match.
