ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen got a pair of goals from Greyson Heustess and went on to knock off visiting East Columbus in the season opener Tuesday, 4-1.

Heustess scored the first goal off a feed from Brooks McGill, then Heustess made a pass to Caleb Hatchell who scored the Eagles’ second goal to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Brooks McGill tallied a goal for East Bladen off a pass from Pierce Melvin to give East Bladen a 3-0 lead and, moments later, Heustess booted in his second goal of the match off an assist from Gabe Barber.

The Gators averted the shutout with a goal late in the second half.

Netminder Spencer Scott recorded four saves for East Bladen.

— In Dublin on Tuesday, the Lady Knights volleyball team won its second straight match to open the season with a 25-17, 25-27, 27-25 and 25-23 non-conference victory over visiting Whiteville.

West Bladen recorded a total of 22 aces in the match — eight of those coming from Logan Autry, who also had 13 assists.

Morgan Schumacher led West Bladen with 14 kills and four aces, while Raegan Davis contributed five kills, 11 assists and two blocks. Kaylee Stevens had 10 kills.

Kassidy Anderson added three aces and four kills for the Lady Knights, and Jenna Dove had four aces. Laikyn Pait had three aces, while Kathryn Schultz had four kills and three blocks.
