West Bladen Knights on the gridiron

DUBLIN — The West Bladen High football program kicked off its official pre-season practices this week with more than 50 student-athletes coming out.

First-year head coach Todd Pait said a majority of those coming out were varsity player.

“We definitely need more jayvee players,” he said, then joked, “But one way or another, we’ll have a jayvee team — even if I have to play.”

The Knights are practicing 8 to 11 a.m. each day in preparation for two scrimmages next week. They will travel to Southport for the South Brunswick scrimmage on Wednesday, Aug. 10, then to East Bladen on Friday, Aug. 12.

The season opens on Friday, Aug. 19.
