Pait, Ludlum contribute to Region 4’s 2-0 softball start at Powerade State Games

RALEIGH — With West Bladen softball stalwarts Laikyn Pait and Alanna Ludlum contributing in a big way, the Region 4 team swept its two opening games Tuesday in the Powerade State Games.

The 2-0 start moves Region 4 into its final round-robin game Wednesday against Region 3 and assures them of a medal-round berth. A win on Wednesday morning would put Region 4 into the gold-medal game; a loss drops them into the bronze-medal game.

In the first game, Pait connected for a home run and Ludlum drove home a pair of runs with a single for a 13-3 win over Region 2. Ludlum, who is the Lady Knights’ starting catcher, also robbed a home run at the fence playing right field for Region 4.

In the second game, Ludlum belted a pair of hits while Pait walked twice and scored both times in a 17-12 win over Region 1.
