DUBLIN — Lumberton’s Dixie Youth Pre-Majors baseball team traveled east on Thursday to face West Bladen in a double-header, but they left their bats back in Robeson County.
Knights pitching held the Class 4-A Pirates to a single run across the two games and earned a sweep with wins of 4-1 and 2-0.
The victories improved West Bladen to 5-4-1.
In the opener, Scott Bowen took the mound for West Bladen and kept Lumberton off-balance through five innings. He gave up the one run and managed to work out of a jam or two en route to earning the win.
At the plate, Bowen helped himself with a two-run double.
In the nightcap, Trent West got the call and went to the hill with the intention of giving West Bladen its first double-header sweep of the summer season. The rising senior did just that, keeping the Pirates from finding home to earn the shutout win.
Jarrett Williams accounted for both of the Knights’ two runs in the game.
