Bladenboro Rotary tourney a success

WHITEVILLE — The 18th annual Bladenboro Rotary Golf Tournament was held May 26 at Land O Lakes Golf Course in Whiteville, with first-, second- and third-place finishes getting awarded.

First place went to the team of Livingston Lewis, Michael Lewis, Larry Mitchell and Bill Settlemeyer.

Second place went to the team of Ronald Russ, Kent Packer, B.C. Smith and Linwood Hedgepeth.

Third place went to the team of Ricky Wright, Marty Davenport, Jerry Clark and Brad Roberts.

The closest-to-the-pin award for women went to Elaine Mebane, and for the men it went to Kent Packer.

“It was a great afternoon for golf and all money raised will fund two scholarships for West Bladen High School seniors,” said Glenn Walters. “The Bladenboro Rotary Club has presented the J.W. and Martha Black scholarships for over 40 years.”

Fishing tournament set for June 24-25

ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown Church of God, located at 1767 N.C. Hwy. 242 North in Elizabethtown, will host a fishing tournament on Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25.

There will be a $25 entry fee with $500 payout for catfish with a minimum of 50 entries and 50/50 payout for panfish.

The tournament will start at 5 p.m. with a meal and devotion. Final weigh-in will be Saturday at 8 p.m. All proceeds will go to the church’s Men’s Fellowship.

Law enforcement golf tourney is June 4

WHITE LAKE — The Bladen County Law Enforcement Officers Association will hold its second annual Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 4, at Vineyard Golf at White Lake.

The event will benefit Operation Christmas.

The cost is $50 per person or $200 per team to play and $100 to sponsor a hole — any business sponsoring a hole will receive recognition with a sign near the hole they sponsor.

There will be a raffle for AR-15 Delton Rifle. Cost for raffle tickets is $5 each and can be obtained from any member of the Law Enforcement Association.

Application for the tournament can be obtained from any Bladen County law enforcement officer or at Vineyard Golf.

Lady Knights to host volleyball camp

DUBLIN — The Lady Knights of West Bladen will hold their third annual mini-volleyball camp for girls ages 9 to 13 years old on June 15-16 from 9 a.m. until noon each day in the West Bladen High School gym.

Cost for the camp is $40 per student and will include a T-shirt. Registration will be held Tuesday, June 15, at 8:30 a.m.

Registration forms may be obtained from your child’s school or from West Bladen High School. Completed forms and fees must be returned to West Bladen High School by May 31.
