ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen High will host the East Bladen Football Jamboree on Friday, Aug. 12, at Lenon Fisher Stadium starting at 6 p.m. Four teams will participate in the event along with the Eagles.
The four visitors — West Bladen, South Robeson, West Columbus and Overhills — will each have four 30-minute scrimmages with a running clock during the evening and each team will have a scheduled 30-minute break.
The scrimmages will be as follows:
— In the first session at 6 p.m., East Bladen will face West Columbus, West Bladen will face Overhills, and South Robneson will be on a break.
— In the second session at 6:30 p.m. Overhills will face East Bladen, West Columbus will face South Robeson, and West Bladen will be on a break.
— In the third session at 7 p.m., South Robeson will face Overhills; East Bladen will face West Bladen, and West Columbus will be on a break.
— In the fourth session at 7:30 p.m., West Bladen will face South Robeson, Overhills will face West Columbus and East Bladen will be on a break.
— In the final session at 8 p.m., West Columbus will face West Bladen, South Robeson will face East Bladen, and Overhills will be on a break.
“Hopefully we can make it a great event,” said East Bladen coach Robby Priest. “It’s our first year trying it like this, so we will see. We’re looking for sponsors now and getting a few wrinkles ironed out is the focus for the next few weeks.”
The Eagles will also participate in the second annual “Battle of the Borders Football Classic” at Lumberton High on Thursday, Aug. 11, starting at 5 p.m. at Alton Brooks Stadium.
The event will once again feature teams from North Carolina (Lumberton, Purnell Swett, Fairmont, West Brunswick, Scotland County and East Bladen) and teams from South Carolina (Dillon, Latta, Lakeview and Marlboro).
Each scrimmage will utilize the entire field and last two quarters.
The schedule will be:
— Fairmont vs. Lakeview at 5 p.m.
— Scotland County vs. East Bladen at 6 p.m.
— West Brunswick vs. Latta at 7 p.m.
— Purnell Swett vs. Dillon at 8 p.m.
— Lumberton vs Marlboro at 9 p.m.
Rain date for the event is Aug. 12. The regular season opens for all teams on Aug. 19.
