CLINTON — Alex Coates fired a one-hitter at the Dark Horses on Thursday and led East Bladen to a 6-0 Four County Conference win on the road.
Clinton could manage just a fourth-inning single against the Eagles’ ace, who raised his record to 9-1 overall this season and 8-0 in the conference. He walked three and struck out five, four of them swinging.
After two scoreless innings, East Bladen got on the board with the only run it would need in the top of the third inning. Coates led off with a double to left-center and scored when Greyson Heustess laced an RBI single.
The Eagles threatened in the fifth when Xavier Wooten singled leading off and grounders pushed him to third, where he got stranded.
But in the sixth, East Bladen erupted for five runs to seal the game. Sincere Smith led off with a single and, after an out, Kyle Tatum ripped an RBI double, Nikita Owens walked and Ty Watkins smashed a two-run triple. With two outs, Coates was hit by a pitch and stole second before the final runs scored on passed balls.
