West nips East in tennis

DUBLIN — The Knights and Eagles battled into the doubles matches before Wednesday’s conference tilt was decided, and West Bladen took a 5-4 win.

The Knights improved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the Four County Conference, while East Bladen fell to 0-4 and 0-4.

The Knights got off to a quick start, as No. 1 singles player Victor Jacome handed East’s Jackson Hunt a 4-6, 6-1 and 10-3 loss.

Alex Gomes gave the visiting Eagles a 6-1 and 7-5 win at No. 2 singles over Matthew Bobby and East’s Robert Meggs took a 6-6 (7-0), 6-4 and 10-3 win over the Knights’ Manuel Arvizu.

The Knights’ Joseluis Osorio won at No. 4 by a 6-2 and 6-3 verdict over Michael McDuffie; Tate Sykes took a 6-3 and 6-2 win at No 5 over Gab Barnes; and East Bladen’s Adonis Johnson beat Kolby Edwards, 6-3 and 6-3 at No. 6.

In the doubles matches, West Bladen managed to take two of three to seal the win.

Jacome and Bobby teamed up for West at No. 1 and took an 8-1 win over Hunt and Gomes. At No. 2 doubles, East’s McDuffie and Barnes teamed for a hard-fought 8-6 win over Osorio and Sykes. At No. 3, Arvizu and Edgardo Lara earned an 8-4 win over Meggs and Collins Pridgen.
