DUNN — The Lady Eagles opened Four County Conference play on the pitch Monday by knocking off previously undefeated Midway, 3-1.

The win kept East Bladen perfect at 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Lady Raiders dropped to 5-1, 0-1.

It took just 10 minutes for the Lady Eagles to get on the board, as a free kick bounced off the Midway crossbar and Lacey Suggs got to the rebound to head the ball in for a 1-0 lead.

About 10 minutes later, Suggs booted a long pass to Hannah Devane, who booted the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 edge that held up until halftime.

In the second half, Suggs wasted little time in getting her second goal of the match when she took a feed from Abby Ward and fired in a shot from in close to give East Bladen a 3-0 advantage.

A passing thunderstorm stopped play for nearly an hour, and when play resumed Midway avoided the shutout with a goal late in the match.

Suggs led the Lady Eagles with two goals and and assist, while Devane had a goal and assist. Kathryn Cole recorded six saves in the match.

East Bladen will host Clinton in a conference match Friday at 6 p.m.
