ROWLAND — The Knights got a stellar pitching performance from Jeremy Hunt and rapped 15 hits, led by Trent West’s 4-for-4 day, to knock off South Robeson in a rainy non-conference game Thursday, 9-0.
The game was halted after five innings because of the rain.
West Bladen put runs on the board in every inning, starting with single runs in the first, second and third before erupting for five runs in the fourth frame that broke the game open. The outburst in the fourth saw 11 batters go to the plate for the Knights and included a two-run double by Troy Edge.
West Bladen tacked on another run in the fifth to seal the win.
Hunt went the distance on the hill and allowed just two hits while striking out four without giving up a walk.
Along with West’s four-single day, Seth Britt was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
— West Bladen rallied from a 3-0 deficit, but couldn’t keep up the momentum and dropped a non-conference game against South Robeson on Thursday, 6-3.
The Lady Mustangs roke open a scoreless game with two runs in the third inning, then added a run in the fourth. But West Bladen fought back with three runs in the top of the fifth on singles by Kathryn SChults and Kassidy Anderson, and a walk to Sophia Singletary. Laikyn Pait followed with a two-run single and an error on the play brought Singletary home with the tying run.
South Robeson, however, regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth.
Alanna Ludlum was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, and also threw out a Lady Mustangs baserunner.
Singletary took the loss in the circle for West Bladen, striking out two and giving up 11 hits and four walks.
