DUBLIN — West Bladen’s Knights will be heading north Tuesday to Goldsboro when they open the state’s Class 2-A East playoffs.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released its playoff brackets for all four classes on Saturday.
West Bladen, 20-7 overall, was seeded No. 23 and will face the No. 10-seeded Cougars, 22-3, out of the Eastern Carolina Conference. Both teams lost their conference championships on Friday — West Bladen fell to Clinton, 72-59, in the Four County Conference finals and Goldsboro lost to Kinston, 65-60.
“It is what it is,” West Bladen coach Travis Pait said about the seeding and bracket. “We figured we’d be playing either Clinton, Jordan-Matthews or Goldsboro — and we don’t know much about Goldsboro.”
Pait added that the Knights are in a tough part of the bracket.
“Beat Goldsboro and we probably face Kinston; beat Kinston and we probably face Fairmont,” he said. “We among the land of the giants — hopefully they are saying the same thing about us.”
