DUBLIN — Laikyn Pait got off to a fast start Thursday, lighting up the scoreboard and leading the Lady Knights to a 62-50 Four County Conference win over visiting Union.
West Bladen improves to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Pait scored eight points in the first quarter for the Lady Knights, fueled by a pair of three-pointers, and West Bladen opened a 12-8 lead going into the second stanza.
The Lady Knights got six points from Erika McKoy and four more from Pait, as West Bladen narrowly won the quarter, 14-12, and took a 26-20 advantage into halftime.
Pait went back at it in the third quarter, draining a trio of buckets to help keep the Lady Knights on top of the Lady Spartans, 38-34, going into the final 8 minutes of play.
West Bladen got just what coach Rick Rhoda could have hoped for, exploding for 24 points in the fourth frame behind three-pointers from Pait and Alanna Ludlum — each of whom scored seven points in the quarter. Logan Autry chipped in with four points down the stretch and the 24-16 quarter win gave the Lady Knights a 12-point win.
Pait led West Bladen with a double-double, scoring 25 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She also added five assists and three steals in the win. McKoy scored 12 points and also had three steals, while Ludlum contributed nine points and matched the three steals. Autry gave the Lady Knights seven assists and had two steals. Elizabeth Allbright had six rebounds and two steals.
