LAKE WACCAMAW — The Lady Knights had no answer for South Robeson’s A’terria Quick, who canned 26 points to lead the Lady Mustangs to a 51-33 win in the first round of the East Columbus Christmas Tournament.
The 18-point win was hardly indicative of South Robeson’s dominance.
The Lady Mustangs held West Bladen scoreless in the first quarter and the 26-0 run bled into the second stanza. The Lady Knights didn’t light up the scoreboard until midway through the second period on a three-pointer by Patience Parker. West Bladen actually finished the half with an 8-2 spurt and trailed by 28-8 at intermission.
South Robeson raced out to a 28-point lead in the third quarter with a 14-4 run, but three-pointers by Alanna Ludlum and Akira Grimes pulled the Lady Knights back to within 42-20 with 8 minutes to play in the game.
West Bladen outscored the Lady Mustangs in the fourth quarter by a 13-9 margin, but the outcome was already decided.
Logan Autry led the Lady Knights with seven points, while Grimes scored six points and had two steals. Laikyn Pait grabbed seven rebounds for West Bladen.
The Lady Knights will play South Columbus in the consolation game on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
