Lady Eagles tabbed tops in statewide poll

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Lady Eagles of East Bladen have nested in a familiar spot this time of year — undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the poll for the state’s Class 2-A schools.

East Bladen, now 7-0, will open Four County Conference play on the road in Dunn against Midway on Tuesday. Among those seven early-season victories are wins against Hoke County and Jack Britt in the Wilmington Laney tournament, and a win over Wilmington Ashley last week. All three are Class 4-A schools.

Conference rival Clinton is also 7-0 this season and ranked No. 6 in the Class 2-A poll. The lady Dark Horses will travel to face East Bladen on Thursday at 6 p.m.
