Bladen volleyball teams fall in playoffs


CLINTON — The No. 26 seed Lady Eagles gave Clinton all it could handle Saturday in the first round of the state’s Class 2-A playoffs before falling in a a hard-fought fifth game, giving the Lady Dark Horses a 3-2 win.

East Bladen finishes its season at 12-9.

Clinton, the Four County Conference champion and No. 7 seed, won the opening game by a 25-20 verdict, but the Lady Eagles went off on an upset-minded rally that saw them take the next two games, 25-20 and 25-19, to go up 2-1 in the match.

But the Lady Dark Horses regrouped and knotted the match at 2-2 with a 25-16 win in the fourth game, setting up the tie-breaker that the home team won, 15-12.

In Carrboro on Saturday, No. 32 seed West Bladen was swept by the No. 1 seed Lady Jaguars in the first round of the state’s Class 2-A playoffs by the scores of 25-7, 25-7 and 25-15.

West Bladen ends its season with a 7-14 record.
