CERRO GORDO — After having games rained out Monday and Tuesday, West Bladen finally got on the field Wednesday for a Dixie Pre-Majors double-header against West Columbus, and the Knights took two nail-biters 5-4, 9-8.
The wins improved West Bladen to 5-2 on the season.
In the first game, West Bladen was cruising behind the pitching of Trent West, who hurled a no-hitter through four frames to earn the win. Scott Bowen finished the game off for the Knights and earned the save.
At the plate, Jeremy Hunt had two hits and Troy Edge drove in two runs for West Bladen.
In the nightcap, the Knights plated four runs in the second inning behind a double by Hunter Pait, two-run single from Ian Sykes and two-run single by Edge. West Bladen added five runs in the fourth frame fueled by a double by Donald McCullum and another two-run single by Edge to take a 9-3 lead.
The Vikings rallied in the home half of the fourth with help from the Knights’ defense. Three West Bladen errors helped West Columbus plate five runs and cut the deficit to 9-8 before the uprising was stopped.
Hunt hurled the first three innings for the Knights and earned the win, while Jarrett Williams pitched a perfect fifth inning to earn the save,
Edge was 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI for West Bladen, while Pait and McCullum were each 2-for-3 with a double. Caleb Sholar was 2-for-3; Hunt was 2-for-3; and Jonathan Ashworth was 2-for-3. Ian Sykes had two RBI.
