ELIZABETHTOWN — The Lady Eagles of East Bladen earned their first victory of the season on the tennis court Thursday, handing the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Wallace-Rose Hill a 5-4 Four County Conference loss.

The two teams battled to a 303 split of the six singles matches. Getting wins for East Bladen were Kathryn Cole at No. 1 by an 8-5 score; Justyna Gargala at No. 2 by an 8-5 verdict; and Ting Lin at No. 5 by an 8-4 margin.

Cole and Cassie Hill teamed up at No. 1 doubles for an 8-3 win and the duo of Laney Cross and Jayme Frady earned an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to seal the match.

The win improves the Lady Eagles to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

— The Knights of West Bladen put up a tough battle on Thursday in Dublin against the visiting Wolfpack of Whiteville, but a late penalty kick provided the final 1-0 cushion to defeat the Knights.

The penalty kick came with about 3 minutes left in the non-conference match.

West Bladen falls to 2-5-2 overall.

Tennis

— The Clinton Lady Dark Horses defeated the Lady Knights of West Bladen by a score of 7-2 in Four County Conference action on Thursday.

For the Lady Knights, Alana Ludlum was involved in both wins — first at No. 1 singles, where she took a 6-2, 1-6 and 10-7 victory; then at No. 1 doubles along with teammate Amber Long, in an 8-2 verdict.

West Bladen is now 8-5 overall and 3-1 in conference.

Volleyball

— In Clinton on Thursday, West Bladen fell in straights sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-11.

Laikyn Pait led the Lady Knights with seven service winners, including a pair of aces, while Kathryn Schultz added five service points with two aces and six kills. Lorna Smith had two aces and four kills, while Kassidy Anderson contributed two kills.

Morgan Schumacher recorded an ace, two kills and a block for West Bladen; Raegan Davis also had a block.

The Lady Knights are now 5-5 overall, 1-3 in the conference.

— In Elizabethtown on Thursday, the Lady Eagles fell to visiting Wallace-Rose Hill in straight sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-21 in the Four County Conference match.

Lexie Mendell led East Bladen with eight kills and a pair of aces, while Lacey Suggs added four kills. Claire Campbell had four kills.

The Lady Eagles are now 3-7 overall, 1-4 in the conference.
